BP seeks settlement prior to civil trials to open Monday – Bellona calls for court
The US government and Gulf of Mexico Coast states are considering offering BP a deal under which it pays $16 billion to settle civil suits stemming from the deadly 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

US court approves historic $4 billion in penalties to BP over Deepwater Horizon spill
A US court has approved on Wednesday the biggest criminal penalties in American history that were handed to British oil giant BP as part of a settlement related to the fatal 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster, meaning that the oil major will be forced to pay punitive sanctions arrived at in November - the largest ever levied.

WASHINGTON – BP is preparing for a so-called “top kill” in another of its hopes at clogging the leak in the Gulf of Mexico that has been gushing for 36 days. The top kill is a measure not everyone is sure about, but seems to be one of BP's last remaining options.
