This year the Supreme Court confirmed the 1998 decision of the St Petersburg City Court about sending the case for additional investigation. Then after additional investigation the St Petersburg City Court fully acquitted Alexander Nikitin.

St. Petersburg Prosecutor's Office has lodged an appeal with the Russian Supreme Court. The prosecution disagrees with the ruling that acquits Nikitin and demands re-evaluation of the case by another judge!

Justice prevails, Nikitin acquitted!
There will be a happy New Year in Russia, for sure! At 14:50 St. Petersburg time today, 29 December 1999, Judge Sergey Golets revealed the verdict in the trial against Aleksandr Nikitin. Nikitin was acquitted of all charges against him.

The prosecutor strikes back

In his appeal against the Nikitin-acquittal, the prosecutor demands a third City Court hearing, claiming that the acquittal contradicts the facts. More striking, however, is that he wants the case to be handled “by another judge”.

A great day for justice

December 29, 1999 should go down in history as a great day for justice. On the eve of the 21st century the St. Petersburg City Court drew away the ghosts from Russia’s past and opened the door to a bright future for a country that has suffered so much throughout the century that we are about to leave.
