Bellona Archive

The Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership (NDEP) is a fund held by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and is earmarked exclusively for environmental renewal from Iceland to Northwest Russia. Contained within this fund is a so-called nuclear window for nuclear clean-up in Russia. NDEP expenditures, whose holdings are now in the hundreds of millions of Euros, are guided by its donor nations and institution: Russia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, France, the UK and the European Commission.

Bellona report focuses EU parliament on need for coordinated nuclear clean-up in Russia
BRUSSELS—In what is certain to become an important if controversial report, Bellona released a new and revealing report Wednesday on Russia’s nuclear industry, from its inception to its secretive pursuit of weaponry and energy, and how the west is and should be helping Russian nuclear remediation and clean-up efforts.

The presentation of the report in Brusssels was co-organizaed by Diana Wallis, UK Member of European Parliament (MEP).

CEG meeting focuses on tightening safety practices for Russia’s nuclear remediation
MOSCOW—In opening statements at last week’s IAEA Contact Expert Group meeting, and in later interviews here with its chairman, Alan Heyes, the group gave indications that funding for nuclear remediation projects was being put to safer and more organized use by its constituent countries.

First contracts on Gremikha navy base rehabilitation signed with EBRD
