Work grinds to a halt at enormous spent nuclear fuel facility in Siberia as funding dries up
ST. PETERSBURG – A gargantuan project by Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom to build a dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel at the Zheleznogorsk Mining and Chemical combine near Krasnoyarsk, Central Siberia, has been ceased.

Russia and America OK Deal to Shut Down Plutonium Reactors
In an apparent landmark achievement in cooperative threat reduction efforts between Russia and the United States, Moscow and Washington penned an agreement last week to shut down Russia's three remaining weapons grade plutonium producing nuclear reactors, sources in both governments say.

Russian PM Kasyanov OKs Plutonium Reactors Shut Down By 2006
The cabinet of Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved plans to halt weapons grade plutonium production at its three remaining weapons-grade plutonium producing reactors within the next three years as part of a threat reduction effort with the United States Department of Energy, or DOE, said a Kremlin statement earlier this week.
