The Novovorenzh Nuclear Power Plant is situated by the city Novovorenzh in the Voronezh region in the south of Russia, close to the Ukrainian border. Novovorenzh was the first power plant in Russia to take pressurized-water reactors into service for electrical power production in 1964. The three reactors in operations at the plant today are two VVER-440 reactors and started operation in 1974 and 1973, and one VVER-1000 reactor, which came on line in 1981. In 2001 and 2002 the two oldest reactors received a 15 year prolongation of their engineered life spans.
Turbine generator 14 of unit 5 of Novovoronezh NPP was restarted on November 13, 2007, at 6 p.m.
A contract has been signed to establish AtomEnergoProject as the main contractor for Novovoronezh Phase 2.
Four month delay is necessary to complete repairs on the reactor lid.
