The Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant is situated by the city Zarechny, in the Sverdlovsk region. The closest larger city is Yekaterinburg. The power plant consists of one fast-breeder reactor (of the BN-600 type), which was put in operation in 1981.

Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant has the worlds largest fast-breeder reactor in operation. Since it was put in operation in 1980, there have been several grave incidents with this reactor. It has also been registered an increase of radioactivity in the areas surrounding the power plant.

Russia allocates $35m for construction of fast neutron nuclear reactor

On November 14th , the Russian Finance Minister Alexey Kudrin announced that funding of 1 billion rubles ($35 million) has been included in next years federal budget for construction of the BN-800 fast neutron reactor at the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant.

Lower House of the Russian Parliament, or the State Duma, and the pro-Kremlin party United Russia demand financing of the second Russias fast breeder reactor construction at the Beloyarsk NPP in the Ekaterinburg region, RIA-Novosti reported.
