13:30 Moscow time: The Russian Supreme Court dismissed the complaints of both the defence team and the prosecution in the case against Aleksandr Nikitin, affirming the October St. Petersburg ruling that returned the case to the FSB for further investigation. Nikitin remains under city arrest, - while the Russian legal system lurks in the dark ages.
The Supreme Court hearing on the appeals in the Nikitin Case started at 10:00 Moscow time this morning. As expected, the hearing happens behind closed doors. Two Duma members were allowed to attend.
The Russian Supreme Court hearing deciding upon the fate of Aleksandr Nikitin has been scheduled for 4 February 1999.
