Two more oil spills in Komi Republic

In less than 24 hours, two oil spills were registered in the city of Ukhta (Komi Republic) on April 18. Bellona, 25/04-2006

According to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, a leak in a pipeline resulted in a spill close to an abandoned factory, and that parts of the oil ran into the Ukhta river. The other leak stemmed from oil tanks belonging to a local machine building company, BarentsObserver reported. More than 20 people are working on the cleanup of the river and its shore. The polluted territory is about 400 square metres.
