The EU calls for proposals for €4 billion worth of energy investments

The European Commission has launched a call for proposals covering key energy infrastructure projects, including CCS, as part of the implementation of the European Energy Programme for Recovery (EEPR). In total nearly €4 billion worth of financial aid will be available to support new energy-related investments.

Norway leads European initiative in carbon capture research

Additional €1.5bn may be made available through the EU budget for CCS funding

With the adoption of the EU energy and climate package last week, CO2 capture and storage (CCS) projects were finally backed by an equivalent of €6bn to €9bn earmarked to demonstrate the technology in action. IEA calls for more action on CCS
1 december 2008
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a report called "Carbon Capture and Storage: A Key Carbon Abatement Option". This report concludes that CCS is one of the most important strategies in reducing global CO2 emissions. The IEA also shows how CCS can become cost effective if several large scale demonstration plants are built as soon as possible. IEA advises governments and industry to commit to investing in the first large scale CCS projects, as this is a prerequisite to making CCS a reality. read more

 

Message from the EU Environmental Committee: CCS could be mandatory by 2015
8 october 2008
The 7th of October 2008 was 'Super Tuesday' for CCS enthusiasts. The EU Environmental Committee voted on proposed directives for CO2 storage and the trading of emission quotas. The result of the voting is that CCS can become mandatory for all EU coal powered energy plants from 2015 onwards.read more

 

New CCS institute in Australia
19 September 2008
Australian PM promise 100 million Australian dollar for a Global Institute to speed up the development of CCS technology. The Institute will aim to accelerate CCS projects through facilitating demonstration projects and identifying and supporting necessary research - including regulatory settings and regulatory frameworks.
