Shown above is the ruptured pipe that leaked some 83 cubic meters of uranium, plutonium and nitric acid liquor onto the fuel clarification cell floor at Sellafields Thorp reprocessing facility over a period of nine months. Beneath the visible crack is the top of Thorps Accountancy tank B, which was photographically inspected on April 18th 2005 when an unexpected weight loss in the tanks contents promoted the investigation. The ruptured pipe itself measures 40 millimeters in diameter.
