03.12 - BIOENERGY STUDY TRIP TO EIDSALM FARM ("The Energy Farm") Brandbu, Norway, December, 3-4, 2008

The Bellona Foundation seeks representatives from Northwest Russia who are interested in developing bioenergy resources in their region for participation in a two-day capacity building workshop at Eidsalm Farm (also known as The Energy Farm) in Brandbu, Norway. The workshop is open to renewable energy developers, energy suppliers, researchers, forest owners, farmers, and government representatives. The Energy Farm is a unique farm operating entirely on renewable sources of energy. The farm is well-known and won the Nordic Council of Ministers Bioenergy Prize in 2007. The bioenergy study trip is coordinated by Bellona to promote development of renewable and sustainable energy in Northwest Russia.

This initiative is made possible thanks to funding from the Barents Secretariat, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Finnmark Municipality.

Program details:
The two-day bioenergy study trip comprises lectures and excursions to local bioenergy facilities in Hadeland, Norway. The workshop will be held in Norwegian with interpretation to Russian. The following topics in the bioenergy sector will be covered:

- market opportunities for bioenergy
- bioenergy production from wood, manure and waste
- planning, establishment and operation of heating plants
- bioenergy applications for heating and electricity
- support mechanisms for renewable energy
